Tom Kosten’s areas of expertise include: 1) translational research for developing new medications in addictions treatment; 2) large scale projects for outpatient efficacy testing; 3) pharmacogenetics for patient matching to medications; 4) implementation and dissemination research and practical experience for new EBP within the national VA; and 5) extensive experience with manuscript preparation from primary studies and secondary analyses of already collected datasets. Many of the treatments being developed in his NIDA Center are targeted for FDA approval including a cocaine vaccine and a specific DBH enzyme inhibitor for stimulant dependence.
